Re: City of Seward Designated Director to the SAAMS/ASLC Board
Dear Mayor Squires:
I am writing in regard to the City of Seward designated seat on the Board of Directors for the Seward
Association for the Advancement of Marine Science (SAAMS) dba Alaska SeaLife Center (ASLC).
The SAAMS Bylaws stipulate the Designated Director shall be the City Manager or the City Manager's
designee, who shall be approved by the SAAMS Board of Directors.
Typically, designated directors are seated annually at the annual Board of Directors meeting for a one
year term. This year's annual board meeting is scheduled for Friday, September 28, 2018. Because the
City of Seward is currently in the process of hiring a new City Manager, the board will be delaying
appointment of this seat until a permanent manager has been selected. In the meantime, we would like to
invite you or a member of the City Council to attend our board meeting on September 28, 2018 as our
guest and a non -voting representative of the City of Seward.
We appreciate the partnership between the ASLC and the City of Seward, and we look forward to the
continued collaboration between our institutions.
Sincerely,
Tara L. Riemer, Ph.D.
President and CEO
Ryan Stuart
Board Chair
