The meeting will commence in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 410 Adams Street, Seward. All interested persons are invited to attend the meetings. Signed this 17th day of October, 2018. Adjournment Sponsored by: Bridges CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2018-085 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR A LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION FUND GRANT TO REFURBISH THE NATIONAL HISTORIC IDITAROD TRAIL BIKEPATH WHEREAS, Waterfront Park annually serves hundreds of thousands of visitors and locals. Weather and the bike path’s bayside location have caused deterioration over the past 20 years. The requested budget will include swales, culverts, large rock, excavation of broken pieces, engineering, project management, adding nearby French or similar drains to avoid puddling, signs and stencils and new paving; and WHEREAS, the State of Alaska is seeking applications for Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Grants, and the bikepath meets the criteria; and WHEREAS, City Council support is required in the lengthy and complex grant application and upon the grant award, the City will be required to commit to a 50% grant match, which may be funded by City of Seward Capital Improvement Project funds; and WHEREAS, if the City is awarded the grant, a second resolution will be requested to accept the grant and appropriate funds; and WHEREAS, the intent of this resolution is to leverage federal dollars to restore and improve a beloved recreation asset. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA that: Section 1. City Council authorizes City Manager to apply for a Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Grant for bikepath restoration and improvement. Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
