CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 80-26
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING YEAR-ROUND USE
OF THE SEWARD PUBLIC SCHOOLS' RECREATIONAL FACILITIES
WHEREAS, the recreational facilities in Seward are limited and those
available are used widely by the local residents, and
WHEREAS, the gymnasiums and racquetball court, as well as the swim-
ming pool, at the elementary and high school complex are utilized heavily
during the winter months and would also be used in the summer if the facilities
were made available to the public, and
WHEREAS, the school swimming pool is scheduled to remuin open this
summer and, with a minimum additional expenditure, the other recreational
facilities could also be made available to the public;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, supports the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District
expenditure of monies to maintain the Seward schools' recreational facilities
for use by the public during the summer months.
AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the School District is urged to
take action confirming its approval of the Council's request as soon as possible
in order that the necessary arrangements can be made to keep the school facilities
open.
The City Clerk is hereby directed to send a certified copy of this
resolution to the following:
Dr. Fred Pomeroy, Superintendent of Schools
Ms. Sheila Owens, School Board President
Mr. Dale Sandahl, Seward High School Principal
Mrs. Elizabeth Richardson, Seward Elementary School Principal
