Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. Good evening, I wanted to send you a note to let you know that due to a family commitment, I will not be able to attend tomorrow evening. That said, we are well on on way to completing the CLG application and I have consulted with Wolf as well. For purposes of the meeting, please see narrative from the first page of the 2020 application: • I anticipate being able to provide a first draft to Deputy Clerk Stallard by approximately Jan 15, 2020. This will allow plenty of time for submission by the Jan 31 Deadline. • Some necessary steps will include the gathering of letters of support from the community. It would be helpful to seek commitments at the meeting of who might reach out to local organizations to include the tribe, Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Pioneers, RBHS, and any other orgs. that the commission deems appropriate. These letters should be received in plenty of time to send with the application. • I intend to seek statements of support or at least interest from local tourism companies to include Harbor 360 and various tour companies. • I would also ask that Ms. Stallard seek a letter of support from City Manager Meszaros. This letter could be very close (read almost identical) to the letter that was submitted for the most recent application. • First page, first draft below. My intent is to focus on a simpler project with community support, and easily defined objectives and timeline for completion. WE CAN DO THIS. Again,my apologies for my absence. Please do not interpret this as a lack of interest or loss of steam. Commissioner Kurtz and I will be working on this application this weekend. • I will also be consulting Jean Ayers at State DNR and will give some attention the recommendations provided on us writing a successful grant. CLG GRANT APPLICATION: FY20 CLG: City of Seward Project Name: Creating a Historic Sites Walking Tour-Signage and Map Project PROJECT INFORMATION See Applying for Certified Local Government Grants: Writing a Successful Application for more detail. i 1. PROJECT DESCRIPTION a. Provide a brief introduction to your project including the aim, scope and significance of the project to your community. The purpose of the project is to increase public awareness of Seward's historical district sites via the creation of a walking tour.We have identified the majority of known sites that are considered to be of historic significance(i.e. 50 or more years of age). We believe that there is both a cultural and economic benefit to the creation of a walking tour in the downtown area. Discussions have been informally held with both the local community and tourism companies that indicate there is a need and a desire for more locations of interest and "things to do in Downtown Seward). It should be noted there is local community support from the City of Seward, the Rotary and others. Our intent and plan of action is to: Order and install signage at approximately 25 historical sites. • Each site will feature signage with a cohesive theme detailing the importance to the City of Seward and the story behind the structure or point of interest. • The tour will be supported by a printed map which will be carried by local hotels, restaurants and businesses. • We have been offered support from the City of Seward's personnel,City of Seward City manager has indicated ful support for this project. • Budget allowing, we will also install directional signage to establish the parameters of the walking tour The above will result in a comprehensive inventory and display of historic properties that will add to Seward's position as a destination for both in-state and out of state visitors. There is both a cultural and economic benefit to the city by completing this project. Please contact me with any questions.
