HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes2004-054 I I I Sponsored by: Shealy CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2004-54 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, TO APPROVE AWARDING THE NORTH SEWARD WATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT TO PENINSULA CONSTRUCTION, INC. AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SIGN THE CONTRACT WHEREAS, the City of Seward advertised for bids on the North Seward Water System Improvements Project on March 22, 2004; and WHEREAS, a total of 8 bids were received on the Bid Opening date of April 22; and WHEREAS, bids were reviewed by the City's consulting engineers, CR W Engineering; and WHEREAS, it is their recommendation, along with the City, to award the project to Peninsula Construction in the amount of$348,382.49; and WHEREAS, Peninsula Construction, Inc. meets all bid requirements, and submitted the lowest bid for this project; and WHEREAS, the engineer's estimate was $609,000.00; and WHEREAS, the City received a $396,600 Grant #76911 from ADEC; and WHEREAS, the estimated project cost totaled $566,571.00 of which the City's matching portion is $169,950.00 as approved by Resolution 2002-087; and WHEREAS, a contingency fee of 10% is requested to cover any unforeseen costs. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The North Seward Water System Improvement Project is hereby awarded to Peninsula Construction, Inc. for the bid amount of$348,382.49 subject to the terms and conditions of its bid, the City's bid documents, and execution of the contract with the City. The City Manager is hereby authorized to complete and sign the contract and all other documents with terms consistent with the City's bid documents and the bid. The amount approved for this contract shall not exceed $383,220.73, consisting of the bid amount of $348,382.49 plus a contingency fee of 10 percent. CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2004-54 Section 2. Funds in the amount of$169,950.00 were previously appropriated and will come from the Water Fund Balance account 701-0000-3050 pursuant to Resolution 2002-087. Section 3. Grant #76911 funding in the amount of $396,600 was appropriated in line item 704-7042-5390. Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. Casey, Director of Public Works From: Saundra Fletcher, Admin. Assistant Public Works Agenda Item: Awarding the North Seward Water System Improvements Project to Peninsula Construction, Inc. BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION: The City of Seward advertised for bids on the North Seward Water System Improvements Project on March 22, 2004. A total of 8 bids were received on the Bid Opening date of April 22. Bids were reviewed by our consulting engineers, CRW Engineering. It is their recommendation, along with the City, to award the project to Peninsula Construction, Inc. in the amount of $348,382.49. They have met all bid requirements, and submitted the lowest bid for this contract. The Engineer’s estimate was $609,000.00. (See attached list for all 8 bids) The City of Seward has received a $396,600 Grant #76911 from ADEC for construction of the Gateway to Forest Acres water line. (North Seward Water System Improvements Project) The estimated project cost totaled $566,571.00 of which the City’s matching portion is $169,950.00. The matching portion of the grant will come from the Water Fund Balance account 701-0000-3050. This was approved by Resolution 2002-087. Approval of a contingency fee of 10% is requested to cover any unforeseen costs.
