Opening Ceremony Commissioner Swann led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Roll Call There were present: Vice -Chair Lasota presiding, and John French Dave Hamner Tom Swann Absent was Jolund Luther and Monica Hinders. comprising a quorum of the Commission; and Patricia Linville, Library Director Ryan Reynolds, Library /Museum Staff Special Reports — City Administration Report- • SCLA debuting new Earthquake documentary on 46 Anniversary. • City offices closed March 29 for Seward's Day. Library showing Seward 100 Years on May 30 • Forwarded City Resolution to SHPO for CLG Grant. • Swann asked about Jesse Lee Home turnover to the Friends of the Jesse Lee Home, Linville answered it would occur on the 3/22/10 Council meeting. Other Reports, Announcements & Presentations - Friends of the Jesse Lee Home Update- Swann- • Lots of activity in Juneau concerning JLH. Push from the Gov's office to say more money is available than the 1.5mil. State is looking at whole project and might supply more funds than previously thought. Staff supports continuing Regular Meetings Motion (Swann/Lasota) Approve Meeting and Agenda Cut -off Schedule Motion Passed Unanimous Consent B. Schedule Work Session on Historic Site Inventory a. Public Meetings were scheduled for Work Sessions on Wednesdays at 6:30pm during April New Business - A. Meeting Minutes from February 17, 2010 Seward Historic Preservation Commission * B. Meeting Minutes from February 24, 2010 Seward Historic Preservation Commission * C. Schedule Work Session to discuss current and upcoming Grants a. "Upcoming Grants Discussion to New Business" was added to April's meeting agenda b. Hamner talked with a contractor, DiamondD, in California about making rubber molds for the Hoben Park Planters. FlowLine Construction in Anchorage would be able to make the planters. Glass- reinforced concrete would be used. Hamner .wr1 presented specifications on planters made for Alaska. Hamner sent a photo of the planter to DiamondD for their advice on how to proceed with construction of embellishments. c. Swann mentioned that Harmon Construction built the Hoben Park Fountain for half the price of other competitors. d. Linville noted that the Planters need not be put out to bid since the project cost was under $10,000. City advised that quotes be requested since project cost was over $1,000. She requested a date for the information to be available so that quotes can be acquired. The date of March 21 was set for providing information on Planters to Patty. Send out info by April 2 Request installment of new planters in quote by July 31 e. Swann requested that Hamner look into quotes after acquiring all the specifics on the Planters. Hamner agreed. D. Resolution 2010 -02 supporting Local Historic Register Application for Seward Light and Power Company Intake Building a. Comments by Carol Griswold — First discovered this structure on a hike up Lowell Canyon, researched the history of electricity and hydropower in Seward. The building is in excellent condition. Griswold did not recommend the structure be placed on a public tour due to the hazardous nature of travel to the site. tiro Motion (Swann/Lasota) Approve Resolution 2010 -02 Motion Passed Unanimous b. French questioned whether Griswold pursued National Register recognition. She had not.
