Call to Order

The March 24,2006 special meeting of the Seward Historic Preservation Commission was
called to order at 12:00 p.m. by Vice-Chair, Tom Swann.
Opening Ceremony
Commissioner Walker-Hettinger led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

There were present: Tom Swann Vice-Chair presiding, and

comprising a quorum of the Commission; and

New Business
Resolution 2006-04 approving the forwarding of the Hoben Park National
Register of Historic Places Nomination to the Alaska Historical Commission for
review and action
Brown noted the project to place Hoben Park on the National Register of Historic Places had
been worked on by the Historic Preservation Commission, the community and City staff for many
years. He stated the administration fully supported the nomination.

Approve Resolution 2006-04
The Commission voiced support for the project and the nomination.

Commission Comments
Park, requested the Commission reschedule the April meeting date of April 19 , 2006 to April
5,2006 at 6:00pm to address the canceled March meeting agenda items and any new items scheduled
for the April meeting.

The Commission agreed to reschedule the April meeting to April 5, 2006, at 6:00 pm.
Citizens Comments
Rick Blythe, Director of Visitor Services, Alaska SeaLife Center. Spoke in support of the
Hoben Park National Register of Historic Places Nomination. He noted the Alaska SeaLife Center
had been working with the City Parks and Recreation Department regarding future care and
maintenance of the park. He stated the Alaska SeaLife Center was the nearest neighbor to the park
and that SeaLife staff and visitors enjoyed the beautiful park.
Kirsten Vesel, Assistant City Manager. Thanked the Commission for the work on the Hoben
Park National Register of Historic Places Nomination. She stated it was very exciting to see the
nomination move forward.
Vesel also updated the Commission on the Friends of the Jesse Lee Home meeting that had
taken place in Anchorage on March 23,2006. She noted that many dignitaries had attended the
meeting and voiced support for the project state wide. She informed the Commission the Rasmuson
Foundation was interested in further considering the project and invited the City to submit a full Tier ~
2 grant proposal. Vesel noted the date to submit the proposal was very short and she urged the .....

Commission to be involved. April 7, 2006 was the submit date. She requested the Commission
..... support the Tier 2 grant application by resolution at the April 5, 2006 meeting.
