HomeMy WebLinkAbout09272006 Historic Preservation Minutes Special Meeting City of Seward, Alaska September 27, 2006 - Special Meeting Historic Preservation Commission Minutes Volume 2, Page 39 Call to Order The September 27, 2006 regular meeting of the Seward Historic Preservation Commission was called to order at 6:33p.m. by Vice-Chair Tom Swann. Opening Ceremony Commissioner Carpenter led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Roll Call There were present: Vice-Chair Tom Swann presiding, and Greg Carpenter Shannon Huber Meredith Hershock Jolund Luther comprising a quorum of the Commission; and Scott Williams, Planner Christy Terry, Executive Liaison Absent was- Shannon Kovac Citizens' Comments on Any Subject Except Those Items Scheduled For Public Hearing - None. Approval of Agenda and Consent Agenda Motion (CarpenterlLuther) Approve the Agenda and Consent Agenda Motion Passed Unanimous Consent New Business Resolution 2006-06, proposing the replacement of the park fountain in support of the Hoben Park restoration mission as the grant project for the FY -075010 State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources, Historic Preservation Fund Grant Motion (HuberlLutherl Approve Resolution 2006-06 Motion (SwannlLuther) Amend the 4tb Whereas to read, "Hoben Park is on the Seward Register of Historical Places and the National Register of Historic J I ....J f ..... City of Seward, Alaska September 27,2006 - Special Meeting Historic Preservation Commission Minutes Volume 2, Page 40 .... of Historic Places" Motion Passed Unanimous Planner Scott Williams directed the Commissions attention to the packets. He noted there was money budgeted to provide the matching grant funds for this project. Williams reviewed the park project priorities and current Hoben Park Fence project and grant obligation. Swann proposed the matching funds for this grant include the funds donated by the SeaLife Center. In response to Swann, Williams noted the SeaLife Center's donation were federal funds and could not be used as a match, but in response to Carpenter stated these funds could be used for other aspects of Hoben Park. Swann advocated moving forward with spending the Hoben Park funds to insure they were available. Carpenter supported this project and felt it qualified for the 5010 Historic Preservation Fund Grant Program under the Department of natural Resources priorities. ..... Luther concurred with Carpenter. Motion Passed As Amended Unanimous Commission Comments- Carpenter asked Williams ifthis would come before Council on their October 23rd Regular Meeting and received an answer in the affirmative. Swann welcomed the new Commissioners to Historic Preservation. Citizens Comments - None.
