Opening Ceremony Carpenter led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Roll Call There were present: Shannon Kovac-Chair presiding, and Greg Carpenter Tom Swann Valerie Park Michaela Walker-Hettinger James Rowell comprising a quorum ofthe Commission; and Malcolm Brown, Planner Donna Glenz, Planning Assistant One Vacant Positions City Administration Report Brown gave an update on City activities as follows: 11: Multi-Agency facility had selected the preferred sight selection that was to include the vacation of Washington Street. 11: The control and ownership ofthe Historic Preservation Website had been transferred to the City MIS department. He requested that the Commissioners submit any needed changes to staff. 11: Council approved site location for the new long-term care facility. The location chosen was east of the current Army Recreation Center in the Fort Raymond Subdivision. Brown noted that the historic monument to the TB center was located on the property. 11: Brown noted that the current owner of the historic Ballaine House was considering demolition and rebuilding of another structure. In response to Kovac, Brown stated that Commissioners wishing to review and update the Website submit corrections to staff. Swann nominated the Seward Centennial Committee. Motion (Swann/Rowell) Close nomination and hold a ballot vote Motion Passed Unanimous Consent Carpenter gave a brief review of the work that had been done by Jon Faulkner on the historic Van Gilder Hotel. Swann gave an overview of some of the accomplishments of the Centennial Committee. Ballots were distributed to the Commission; votes were placed and ballots picked up by the clerk. The clerk read the votes as follows: Faulkner 4 and the Centennial Committee 2. Motion (Carpenter/Swann) Select Jon Faulkner as the 2005 Historic Preservation Annual Award winner. Motion Passed Yes: Rowell, Carpenter, Swann, Park, Kovac No: Walker-Hettinger New Business Resolution 2005-01 supporting the selection of Hoben Park restoration project as the subject for the FY 2006 State of Alaska Historic Preservation Certified Local Government Grant Project Motion (Carpenter/Walker-Hettinger) Approve Resolution 2005-01 Carpenter reviewed the discussion held during the August work session on the Hoben Park restoration project. Motion Passed Unanimous Consent Discussion of scheduling four (4) weekly work sessions to work on the Jesse Lee Home Restoration Project. Swann reviewed the hopes and plans he had for the work sessions. He requested that the Commission schedule the next four (4) Wednesdays, starting August 31 through September 21. He noted that an original sign for the Jesse Lee Home was currently stored on the roof of the old storage building. He requested input from the Commission on how to handle the sign. }y Brown noted that the City staff was currently working on the City budget which included the Boards and Commissions. }y He announced the National Trust Convention planned for the end of September in Portland, Oregon.
