HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1960-170 r~-- 1 CITY OF SEVlARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 170 2 3 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A REFERENDUM VOTE AT THE NEXT GENERAL F.I:l!~TION BY THE QUALIF'IID VOTERS OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, ON THE 4 PROPOSAL OF INCREASINU THE SALES TAX FROM TWO PER CEm' ro THREE PER CENT ON RETAIL SALF~S, SERVICES., AND RENTS, TO BE US:ED ONLY FOR THE PURPOSE 5 OF PROVIDING ADDITIONAL FUNDS FOR THE CONSTR~TION AND OPERATION OF MORE ADEX)UATE EDUCATIONAL AND PUBLIC HEALTH FACILITIES AND TO PROVIDE FOR BE'ITER- 6 MENT OF THE SCHOOLS AND TO PAY FOR SCHOOL OBLIGATIONS; PUBLIC HEALTH; AND SANITA TION. 7 8 THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, RESOLVES: 1. That at the next general election to be held in the City of Seward, 9 Alaska, the following proposal be submitted to the qualified voters of the Ci ty of Seward: 10 11 "PROPOSAL: Shall the Seward Sales Tax Ordinance No. 267, as amended, which now imposes a two per cent consumers' sales tax be further amended to impose a three per cent consumers' sales tax, all proceeds of such tax to be used only for the purpose of providing additional funds for the construction and opera- tion of more adequate educational and public health facilities and to provide for betterment of the schools and to pay for school obligations; public health; and sanitation, as authorized by Chapter 124 of the Session laws of the State of Alaska, 1960." 12 13 14 15 16 2. The City Clerk is directed to prepare ballots clearly presenting the foregoing proposition as to whether the sales tax shall be increased, and setting forth the specified special purposes for which the revenue de- rived from such tax is to be used, such ballots to be prepared for use in the next general election in this city. 17 18 19 An emergency is hereby declared to exist and the rules governing the passage of ordinances and resolutions are hereby suspended and this Resolu- tion is hereby given imnediate effect upon its passage and approval. 20 21 Passed and approved this 19th day of August, 1960.
