RESOLUTION 2004-67
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE DISCHARGE OF FIREWORKS BY THE
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE DURING THE 2004 INDEPENDENCE DAY
CELEBRATION
WHEREAS, Seward City Code S 1 0.1 0.040 prohibits the discharge of fireworks in Seward
unless specifically approved by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce will be again sponsoring a fireworks display on
Sunday the 4th of July, 2004, and has requested city council approval; and
WHEREAS, the City has traditionally allowed the Chamber of Commerce to provide a
fireworks display within the City in conjunction with its Fourth of July celebration.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. As a part of its Fourth of July Celebration, the Seward Chamber of Commerce is
authorized to discharge fireworks within the City at a time and place that has received the prior
approval of the City Fire Chief.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 14th
day of June, 2004.

BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION:
The Seward Chamber of Commerce has requested permission from City Council to hold a
fireworks display on Sunday, July 4, 2004 at 12:01 am at the northwest corner of Boulder
field, north of the old Wellington pavilion area.
Seward City Code 10.10.040 prohibits the discharge of fireworks in Seward unless
specifically approved by the City Council. The City has traditionally allowed the Chamber
of Commerce to provide an annual fireworks display within the City in conjunction with its
Fourth of July celebration. The fireworks will be again be presented by Fire Art by Griz.

The Seward Chamber of Commerce stated that they will work directly with the Seward Fire
Department to insure that the fireworks show is presented in a safe manner. The Chamber
has also stated that they will supply two guards to keep the public away from the set up and
discharge area, same as in years past.

City Council approve Resolution 2004-67, authorizing the discharge of fireworks by the
Chamber of Commerce during the 2004 Independence Day Celebration.
