ALASKA OFFICE OF: RESOLUTION NO. 183 A RESOLUTION TO CANCEL AUTHORIZATION FOR ISSUANCE OF $600,000.00 REVENUE BONDS FOR THE PURCHASE, ETC. OF A TEIEPHONE SYSTEM AND TO AUTHORIZE CHARGING $336.00 EXPENDED TO THE GENERAL FillID. WHEREAS, on the ~th day of September, ~~j5, the Common CounciL of the C~Ly of Seward approved Resolut:l.On No. '85 ca..tlJ.ng for a Specuu Elect~on on the ~8th day 01' October, ~~j) to determine "ShaLl the Town 01' Seward, AlaSka, issue revenue bonds, payable sole~y 1'rom unp~edgea revenue of a te~ephone system, under authority of Act of Barch 6, ~~46, in an amount not to e:x:ceed SJX Hundred Thousand Dollars l$600,OOO.00) at a lllaX1.IUum interest rate of rive ()) per cent per annum, for the purpose of purcnas~g, renab~litating, bettering and financ- ing a telephone system?" and WHEREAS, said Special Election was held on the 18th day of October 1955 and the majority of ballots cast were in favor, and WHEREAS, the bonds have not been issued to date, and WHEREAS, during the year 1958 the private ownership of the bankrupt Alaska Telephone Corporation was re-organized under the direction of the U. S. District Court for the Western District of 'Washington, Northern IDavision, Proceeding No. 41632, and WHEREAS, the people authorized the purchase of a telephone system when it appeared that there was no other way of obtaining satisfactory telephone service, and WHEREAS, it is not normally desirable for a city to enter into the telephone business, and WHEREAS, conditions have changed so much that it would appear desirable to again go to the people if the City were to again contemplate purchasing a telephone system, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, and it is hereby resolved that the Revenue Bonds authorized by the Special Election of October 18, 1955, for the purchase of a telephone system be stricken from the books and be it further resolved to charge out the $336.00 previously expended in this connection to the General Fund.
