A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, SUSPENDING THE CITY'S CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)
STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARATION
WHEREAS,on March 23,2020,the Seward City Council approved Resolution 2020-026,
officially declaring a state of disaster emergency caused by the Coronavirus outbreak; and
WHEREAS, on May 11, 2020, the Seward City Council approved Resolution 2020-035,
continuing the declaration of a state of disaster emergency; and
WHEREAS, on June 8, 2020, the Seward City Council approved Resolution 2020-046,
confirming the declaration of a state of disaster emergency; and
WHEREAS,on December 14,2020,the Seward City Council approved Resolution 2020-
093, extending the declaration of a state of disaster emergency until repealed or suspended by
council; and
WHEREAS,the declaration of emergency served to protect Seward's health care system
from being overwhelmed, and to protect the community's most vulnerable populations; and
WHEREAS, since early 2021, vaccines have become more prevalent and more readily
available to residents of ever-widening age groups; and
WHEREAS,the number of new cases across the Kenai Peninsula Borough has decreased
significantly since the vaccines were introduced; and
WHEREAS, local businesses are encouraged to establish their own health and safety
protocols as they see fit for the upcoming tourist summer season; and
WHEREAS,the City of Seward will now focus its attention on supporting the successful
economic recovery of its citizens and businesses.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD,ALASKA:
Section 1. The Seward City Council hereby suspends the declaration of a public health
disaster and emergency caused by Coronavirus(COVID-19).
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon approval.
