HomeMy WebLinkAbout12052012 PACAB Minutes City of',Seward,Alaska Port and Commerce Advisory Board Minutes December 5, 2012 Volume 3, Page 208 CALL TO ORDER The December 5,2012 regular meeting of the Port and Commerce Advisory Board was called to order at 12:08 p.m. by Darryl Schaefermeyer,Vice Chair. OPENING CEREMONY Jaffa led the pledge of allegiance to the flag. ROLL CALL There were present: Darryl Schaefermeyer,Vice Chair,presiding, and Bruce Jaffa Steve Fink Bob Linville Carl Hughes _ Comprising a quorum; and Deborah Altermatt Dan Oliver Were excused Also present were: Norm Regis, Deputy Harbor Master Mack Funk, Harbor Master Suzi Towsley,Board Liaison Louis B encarda.no,Alaska Railroad Tire McDonald SPECIAL ORDERS,PRESENTATIONS AND REPORTS 1. Rail Road report,Louis Bencardino- The Railroad had hosted the Holiday Festival and 2 coal ships at their Dock as of late.They had also had 14 vessels including the Noble Discoverer,Nannook and the Arctic Endeavor. A training session had been conducted that morning,was loud and somewhat unsettling as it could be heard all over town,but was a onetime event. The Rail Road's Annual report for 2013 was presented to the Board. 2. Harbor Master Report— Mack reported on his trip to the Fish Expo in Seattle,harbor personnel prepping for the New Year and moorage-renewals,the vessel wash down pad was nearing the construction phase of the process,the Coast Guard building was nearly done,and three resolutions had been sent to council. 3. Chamber Report- Cindy Clock presented the board with new Chamber Pamphlets and the schedule for 2013 which included: City of Seward,Alaska Port and Commerce Advisory Board.Minutes December S, 2012 Volume 3, Page 209 Polar Bear Jump, January 19, Anchors Aweigh boat show, February 6-10 Harbor Opening, May 18 Thank the Troops Events, May 18-27 Halibut Tournament,June 1-3 0 Silver Salmon Derby,August 10-18 More info available at www.sewardehamber.org 4. Administration reported on Coastal Villages Region Fund report included in the packet,the Library/Museum was nearly done.A ballast water discharge had taken place at SMIC,was reported to the Department of Environmental Conservation and a clean-up. plan was underway by the contractor. City Personnel involved would track their hours involved. CITIZENS' COMMENTS ON ANY SUBJECT EXCEPT THOSE ITEMS SCHEDULED FOR PUBLIC HEARING There were none. APPROVAL OF AGENDA AND CONSENT AGENDA Motion (Linville/Fink) Approval of Agenda With Corrections Unanimous Consent Motion Passed Motion (Fink/Linville) Motion to set the topic for the topic for the December 19, 2012 work session as "Annual Report Review" and "Comprehensive Harbor Rates Comparisons". Motion Passed Unanimously The board discussed their availability throughout the busy holiday season. CITIZENS' COMMENTS Tim McDonald stated that he wanted CVRF to come here but was upset that other alternatives for building a harbor had not been thoroughly explored, in his opinion.
