RESOLUTION 2021-124
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SPEND AN
AMOUNT UP TO $24,950 FOR THE PURCHASE OF A ROCK BUCKET
ATTACHMENT FROM CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY INDUSTRIAL,
LLC (CMI) FOR THE CITY LOADERS WORKING AT THE ROCK
QUARRY AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS
WHEREAS,the Public Works Department solicited pricing for a rock bucket attachment
for the loaders to avoid damage to the regular buckets while working in the quarry on larger size
rock materials; and
WHEREAS, Construction Machinery Industrial, LLC (Volvo) has provided the lowest
pricing in the amount of$24,950.00 to provide a new rock bucket; and
WHEREAS,the quarry is being developed by the Public Works Department and recently
produced over$200,000 in positive revenue for the City; and
WHEREAS, this rock bucket attachment will enhance the ability to continue producing
rock and gravel products and reduce damage to the regular buckets; and
WHEREAS,the cost to purchase is to be funded from recent profits at the quarry.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD,ALASKA that:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to spend an amount not-to-exceed
$24,950.00 to Construction Machinery Industrial, LLC to purchase the rock bucket.
Section 2. Funding in the amount of$24,950.00 is hereby appropriated from the General
Fund reserves account No.01000-0000-3400 to the Street Department Capital Equipment Account
No. 01000-1310-8103.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 8th
day of November 2021.

Agenda Item: Resolution 2021-124: Authorizing the City Manager to Spend an
Amount up to $24,950 for the Purchase of a Rock Bucket Attachment
from Construction Machinery Industrial, LLC (CMI) for the City Loaders
Working at the Rock Quarry and Appropriating Funds
Background and justification:
The Public Works Department is making upgrades to some quarry equipment to produce
additional positive revenues and add material supplies for City use in the SMIC area. One
step in moving forward is to purchase a heavy-duty rock bucket to avoid damaging our
normal loader buckets which are not constructed for consistent mining and loading of large
rock stockpiles.
Four different manufacturers provided prices. The lowest price quote of the four received is
for a Volvo bucket through Construction Machinery Industrial for $24,950.00. This purchase
is to be funded from recent quarry sales that generated profits of over $200,000.
