To whom it may concern,
My name is Joevahnta Usugan-Weddington, and I am expressing my interest in being on the Ad
Hoc Committee for the Heat Loop Project.
Growing up in Seward has given me a lot of appreciation for the wonderful small town I call
home, and I am invested in the potential future development Seward has to offer. I attended
multiple Seward City Council meetings advocating both for the heat pump project and the Lowell
Canyon small hydro project in hopes of seeing Seward reach closer to energy independence
and reduced emissions.
Currently, I reside in Fairbanks ever since I became a full-time student at the University of
Alaska Fairbanks where I'm pursuing a double major in engineering and Yup'ik language. This
spring 2022 semester I also completed my Sustainable Energy Occupational Endorsement
Certificate through UAF Bristol Bay Campus, where one of the classes in this program
specifically focused on heat pumps and their application in Alaska.
I will be living in Fairbanks year round until my degrees are completed, but if there is possibility
of distance communication via phone or Zoom I would certainly do what I can. I will also be
making trips down to Seward over the summer to visit my mother, so I can try to see what I can
do in person as well. If my physical position away from Seward means I cannot be on the
committee I would still like to be involved to offer whatever knowledge and insight I can.
