City Council Agenda Statement
Meeting Date: August 22, 2022
To: City Council
Through: Janette Bower, City Manager
From: Norm Regis, Harbormaster
Agenda Item: Resolution 2022-093: Accepting and Appropriating the Gulf of Alaska Pacific
Cod Disaster Grant Funds in the Amount Of $43,676 from the Pacific States
Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC)
Background and justification:
In February 2022, the City of Seward received a letter from the Pacific States Marine Fisheries
Commission (PSMFC) stating funds have been allocated to fishing communities in the Gulf of Alaska
that depend on revenue generated from fish landings and other economic activity related to Pacific
Cod fisheries in 2018.
The City of Seward has been identified as an eligible community able to receive $43,676.00 through
cost reimbursement for qualifying expenditures.
The City must use the funds developing, improving or maintaining infrastructure services or habitat
that support Pacific Cod commercial fisheries in our area.
Working with PSMFC and having our request approved for the grant was to purchase several new
pressure washers and an additional washdown trailer for the SMIC washdown pad.
On August 5, the city received an email with the grant agreement PSMFC 22-178G which was signed
by the City manager.
The City needs to accept these grant funds and appropriate them to a designated account set up by
finance for the city to proceed with acquiring the equipment approved in the original grant request
