RESOLUTION NO. 413
WHEREAS, the local radio station was destroyed in the Good Friday earth-
quake and tidal waves; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward finds radio cOJll11unication to the citizens indis-
pensable during the reconstruction of water, sewer, electric and street
utilities; and
WHEREAS, the United states Army Air Force supplied a radio transmitter
for use by Seward Civil Defense from the time of the disaster until August
16, 1964, which is new again gratefully acknowledged; and
WHF.RJi'~~, the local radio station is being rebuilt but will not be ready to
operate until approximately November 1964; and
WJ-mR1U~, due to the recurring urgent need for radio communications, the
Seward High School has organized a COJII11uni ty 8ublic Announcements and
In!ormation project in its civics class wherein the students may operate a
radio transmitting station for such purposes under the direction and guidance
of the School;
RCM, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the United States Army Air Force be,
and is hereby, J.'8IUested to loan a radio transmitter to the Seward High
School for the above stated reasons and purposes until the local station
is again operating.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Seward shall pay the electricity bill
for operation of said transmitter; that it will not be responsible for any
other charges incurred in the operation of maintenance of said transmitter
without specific, prior approval of the City Manager.
BE IT FUR'mER RESOLVED that, in appreciation of the public service pro-
ject, the City Council offer all cooperation to this project, and that the
