I own one lot in Forest Acre, 2511 Pine Street. I am writing with regards to Resolution 2023-029.
6 purchased this lot knowing that utilities would be required for us to build but also knew that the
City of Seward has helped to cover the cost of adding utilities to other past and current
development projects in town done by Metco, Harmon, etc. Knowing that the city helped to fund
other projects, I was optimistic that they would do the same for a group of motivated individuals
looking to make Seward a permanent home. I am disappointed that large companies get
preference and assistance over individuals looking to build their own homes, not develop land
for profit.
am a co-owner of a small business in Seward and currently have a dry cabin out in Camelot,
but as my wife and I look to start a family we would like to move into town and have a house
with full utilities and a real bathroom. We all know that Seward is lacking enough housing to
support our local economy and young families and I hope that the City of Seward will continue
to work to find additional funding sources for adding utilities to this section of town.
With the cost of the survey and report from R&M Consultants, I and my neighbors likely cannot
afford to both bring in utilities and build homes. I am asking that the City of Seward continues to
seek out additional funding sources, such as Congressional Directed Spending Requests (aka
"earmarks") before committing to the utility expansion. As of right now, I object to the proposed
Special Improvement District. I feel more work needs to be done to find funding and help our
group of individual landowners in a similar way that several local development companies were
financially helped.
