COUNCIL AGENDA STATEMENT Meeting Date: August 23, 2004 Through: Phil Shealy, City Manager From: Dave Calvert, Manager, Electric Utility Agenda Item: Mini-Excavator BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION: The Electric Department has need for a “Mini-Backhoe” which can fit in tight areas where our normal size Backhoe’s cannot go. With the increased use of underground wiring to serve our new customers, we need to be able to access rather narrow areas with our digging equipment. After much discussion with the line crew, covering a period of several months, we issued a Request for Proposal for a Mini-Backhoe as specified in the attached RFP. Four companies responded with proposals. We then narrowed it down to two units which we feel would meet our requirements and had one of the linemen actually test the units, or as close to the units specified as we could get. The opinion of the crew is that we should select the Volvo Compact Excavator EC15B, with cab and trailer. The RFP results are as follows: Company Equipment Price Construction Machinery Industrial Volvo Compact Excavator EC15B $31,090.00 (With Cab) Craig Taylor Equipment Company Bobcat Compact Excavator $34,450.59 322 G Series (With Cab) Totem Equipment and Supply IHI Compact Excavator 15NX $28,550.00 (No Cab) United Rentals Takeuchi TB016 (No Cab) $28,641.00 (No trailer specifications) ????? 1 CONSISTENCY CHECKLIST: Yes No 1.
