HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1966-499 RESOLUTION NO. 499 ~~EREAS, Gateway Development Corporation is a local Alaskan corpor- ation which is interested in developing and utilizing local natural ore resourceS1 and ~mEREAS, this corporation has thoroughly studied and planned its prospective operation, using its own funds1 and 1~REAS, this proposed industry is feasible and would be an asset to our dwindling national supply of various metals1 and ~mEREAS, this industry would be of economic benefit to the entire State oi Alaska, as well as to our local area, and would be of benefit to other existing industries within the State, as well as increasing employment throughout; and v~EREAS, reports from geologists, miners, and other sources indicate an abundance of various metal ores located throughout our area in sufficient quantities to sustain such industry for years to come1 and lmEREAS, said corporation is now processing a loan application through EDA for sufficient funds to establish a lead circuit reverbatory type smelter, to be located on tidelands in the Seward area, and access to the plant by rail, highway and water transport is available, making it an entirelv feasible much needed new industry for The City of Seward 1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SE~JARD wholeheartedly supports the construction and operation of the proposed lead circuit reverbatory type smelter by GATEt1AY DEVELOp~mNT CORPORATION, and is willing to assist in whatever way possible to facilitate construction and operation of such plant in the Seward area. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that communication be immediately directed to EDA, urging it to consider the said corporation's application as soon as possible, so as to facilitate construction during the coming season.
