HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1966-514 THE CITY OF SEt-lARD RBSOLU'1'ION NO. 514 ~mEREAS, a 1965 ALL-AMERICA CI'l'Y AWARJ) has been won by 'lbe City of Seward for the extraordinarily couraqeous and spontaneously concerted manner in which the Seward people undertook the work of r~ving the gargantuan wreckage of the Great Alaskan Earthquake of March 27. 1964 and the rebuilding of industries, public facilities and homes, in order that people might again live and work in this, their home town -- that this community, so vital to the entire State of Alaska, might again thrive and be of service: and ~mRBAS, the work of rebuilding is almost finished, we see the time near when a new and different emphasis will direct our community life, and lrmERBAS, we believe it is fitting and proper that we all celebrate the high honor of being named an ALL-AMERICA Cl'1'Y POR 1965 and the triumph for which the award was given, NOW. 'l'HBRBPORB, BE 1'1' RESOLVED that PlUnAY, APRIL 29. 1966, be and is hereby declared a holiday in 'lbe City of Seward for the celebration of SEWARD'S 1965 ALL-AMERICA Cl'1'Y AllARD and for the CCIIlI'Ilemoration of our triumph for which the Award was given: and all citizens are welcomed and encouraged to participate as hosts to our friends and neighbors invited to share this occasion with us, and as celebrants themselves in the events and spirit of the day: and BE 1'1' FURTHER RESOLVED that Saturday, ,"pdl 30. 1966, and Monday, May 2, 1966, be and are hereby declared holidays, to facilitate and encourage attendance by all Seward citizens at the celebration of like awards in Valdez on April 30, 1966, and in Anchorage, on May 2, 1966.
