RESOLUTION NO. 626
WHEREAS, the importance of planting trees inspired J. Sterling
Morton to move the Nebraska State Board of Agriculture to adopt
a resolution proclaiming April 10, 1872 the first Arbor Day: and
WHEREAS, this observance has continued through the years and
has become an annual event across the nation: and
WHEREAS, each state chooses a date to emphasize the desira-
bility of planting trees that is best suited to their climatic
conditions:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that May 21, 1967 is hereby'
especially set apart as Arbor Day and consecrated for tree
planting in The city of Seward.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the exercises of Arbor Day shall
give due honor to the conservers of forestry and the founders of
the study and conservation of Alaska forestry.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the people of Seward recognize
the importance of tree planting for the beautification of the
landscape and the conservation of our natural resources.
Passed and approved by the City Council of The City of
seward, Alaska this ~day of May, 1967.
