CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
ORDINANCE NO. 96-10
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AMENDING SEWARD CITY CODE
CHAPTER 15.10, SEWARD ZONING CODE, TO PROHIBIT
IMPOUND LOTS IN THE AUTO COMMERCIAL ZONING DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the Seward Zoning Code, Land Uses Allowed Table, currently allows a vehicle
impound lot within the Auto Commercial Zoning District by Conditional Use Permit; and
WHEREAS, the Auto Commercial Zone is located primarily along the Seward Highway and
Third Avenue which is Seward's main vehicular entrance for residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, during a recent application for a vehicle impound lot within the Auto
Commercial District, it became evident that the public is generally opposed to such a use along the
city's main corridor; and
WHEREAS, the allowance of vehicle impound lots within the Auto Commercial Zoning
District is not in harmony with the Comprehensive Plan's objective to improve the appearance of
the city's entries; and
WHEREAS, the Planning and Zoning Commission approved Resolution No. 96-02,
recommending enactment of this proposed change to the Zoning Code;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Seward City Code ~ 15.10.225, Land Uses Allowed Table, is hereby amended
to prohibit vehicle impound lots in the Auto Commercial Zoning District.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect ten (10) days following its enactment.
ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, this
26th day of February, 1996.
