HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1969-738 r-------- I TIlE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA I I RESOLUTION NO. 738 WHER EAS; The United States Department of Transportation operates the dock and rail facilities at the Port of Seward through the Alaska Railroad and also operates the dock and rail facilities at the Port of Whittier through the same agency which is under its control; and WHEREAS; The best information available to us at this time shows plan- Ding by the Alaska Railroad to close the facilities at Seward because of the suspension of service by Alaska Steamship Lines, and at the same time spend further public monies to enlarge and increase the facilities at the Port of Whittier at the request of Alaska Steamship Lines; and WHER EAS; Such closure at Seward and expenditure of funds at Whittier constitutes, in our judgment, a needless waste of public funds; NOW, THER EFOR E BE IT R ESOL VED that the Common Council of The City of Seward, Alaska, respectfully urges Congress to investigate the entire involvement of the Federal Government through its Department of Transportation in the transportation industry in South central Alaska.
