RESOLUTION 2005-04
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN
AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF SEWARD, A VTEC AND ALASKA
FIRE SERVICE TRAINING FOR THE PURPOSE OF OPERATION OF THE
SEWARD FIRE TRAINING FACILITY
WHEREAS, City of Seward has designated real property in the Seward Marine Industrial
Center (SMIC), for the intended purpose of fire and safety training; and
WHEREAS, the use of the facility is limited to the City of Seward, A VTEC, Alaska Fire
Service Training and nearby Volunteer Fire Departments; and
WHEREAS, only non-profit and governmental entities are permitted to use this facility; and
WHEREAS, all operators understand that the fire and safety training facility is the property
of the City of Seward; and
WHEREAS, upon legal review by all parties, they have agreed on the terms and conditions
of the Memorandum of Agreement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA that:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to enter into the Memorandum of
Agreement of the Seward Fire Training Facility, attached hereto, for the purpose of fire and safety
training.
Section 2. This resolution shall take affect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 24th day of
January, 2005.

Agenda Item: Memorandum of Agreement for the Seward Fire Training Facility
BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION:
Attached Memorandum of Agreement between the different entities involved in the Fire Training
Facility.
The Seward Fire Training Facility is a collaborative effort between the City of Seward Fire
Department, AVTEC and Alaska Fire Service Training, to provide local fire and safety training to
non-profit and governmental entities.
On May 10, 2004 City Council approved the use of Block 1 in the Fourth of July subdivision for a
training center. Each participating entity in this agreement has committed resources for the
construction of the facility.
All Operators understand that the fire and safety training facility is the property of the City of Seward.
Use of the facility is limited to the City of Seward, AVTEC, Alaska Fire Service Training and nearby
volunteer fire departments that meet the operation criteria.

RECOMMENDATION:
Council approves Resolution 2005-04, approving the City Manager to enter into an agreement
between the City of Seward, AVTEC and Alaska Fire Service Training for the purpose of operating
the Seward Fire Training Facility.
