RESOLUTION 2002-090
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, ENDORSING THE STREET DEPARTMENT EQUIPMENT
PURCHASE FOR SUBMISSION TO THE STATE OF ALASKA FOR THE
FY2004 FUNDING UNDER THE CAPITAL PROJECT MATCHING
GRANT PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska Department of Community & Economic Development
is accepting applications for its FY2004 Capital Project Matching Grant Program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward is an eligible municipality under AS 37.06 as set forth in
2 AAC 47.030 and our projected available funding for FY2004 is $74,198; and
WHEREAS, to receive these funds, the City must provide a minimum local match of
$17,774 for a total minimum project funding of$91,972; and
WHEREAS, one of the most important services that the street department provides is
snow and ice removal and maintenance of City streets for public safety; and
WHEREAS, the street department equipment continues to age with some pieces of
equipment being over 30 years old; and
WHEREAS, the work being required of the street department continues to increase due
to the age of the infrastructure and growth of the community; and
WHEREAS, over the last several years there have been additional road miles added that
the street department is responsible for and the street department will be responsible for Port
Avenue in CY2003 after the State completes the improvements on Port Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of this project is to replace aging equipment in the street
department that can be used to maintain the City streets; and
WHEREAS, the grant funding from the State will help fund the equipment needs of the
street department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward hereby endorses the street department equipment purchase
for submission to the State of Alaska for FY2004 funding under the Capital Project Matching

Grant Program, requests grant funding under AS 37.06 for said project and agrees to provide the
local share for the project as required under AS 37.06.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 9th
day of September, 2002.
