CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 2002-136
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A
LAND AND FACILITIES USE AGREEMENT WITH THE ALASKA
RAILROAD CORPORATION (ARRC) FOR THE PURPOSE OF HOLDING
SEVERAL EVENTS RELATED TO THE UPCOMING CENTENNIAL
CELEBRATION ON ARRC PROPERTY DURING 2003
WHEREAS, as part of Seward's Centennial Celebration for 2003, there are three events
that are scheduled to be held on Alaska Railroad property; and
WHEREAS, the events are the Seward Centennial New Year's Eve Cotillion on
December 31,2002 to January 1,2003, the History of Seward Centennial Symposium on
February 7, 2003 and the Railroad Days on September 20 and 21,2003; and
WHEREAS, the ARRC has agreed to allow these events on their property at no charge,
provided however, that the City is willing to enter into a Land and Facilities Use Agreement and
be the primary entity responsible for and assume all liability for the events; and
WHEREAS, the City has or can obtain the necessary special events insurance coverage
required by the ARRC; and
WHEREAS, other organizations involved with the special Centennial events can
purchase special event insurance through the City's insurance pool, if necessary; and
WHEREAS, the City will work with the various organizations involved in the events and
the ARRC to identify and minimize any potential hazards.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to enter into a Land and Facilities Use
Agreement with the Alaska Railroad Corporation for the purpose of holding several events
related to the upcoming Centennial Celebration during 2003. The form of the agreement will be
in substantially the form as presented at this meeting.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
