CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
ORDINANCE NO. 96-21
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AMENDING SEWARD CITY CODE
SECTION 5.35.040 BY CREATING A SALES TAX EXEMPTION
FOR ACUPUNCTURISTS
WHEREAS, on April 22, 1996, the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly amended the
Borough Sales Tax Code by creating an exemption for acupuncturists; and
WHEREAS, since the Borough is responsible for the administration and collection of City
sales tax, it is important that the City's Sales Tax Code mirror the Borough's as closely as possible;
and
WHEREAS, acupuncturists are licensed and regulated by the State of Alaska and provide
services which are similar to other licensed health care providers;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. Seward City Code Section 5.35.040, Exclusions and exemptions, is hereby
amended to include acupuncturists as follows:

"Retail sale, " "sale at retail" or "sale" does not include:

2. Hospital services and medical services performed by licensed medical
doctors, dentists, osteopaths, optometrists, chiropractors, state-licensed private
nurses, speech and hearing pathologists, physical therapists, acupuncturists, state-
licensed psychologists, psychological associates, and licensed clinical social
workers, and retail sales of medicinal preparations, drugs or appliances under a
written prescription from one of the foregoing;

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect ten (10) days following its enactment.
