HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes2003-035 I I I Sponsored by: Erchinger CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2003-35 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXTEND A SPECIAL CONTRACT FOR ELECTRIC RATES WITH SEWARD TERMINAL, INC. WHEREAS, at the present time, Seward Terminal, Inc. does not have a contract to ship any further coal from its terminal in Seward, but is working to negotiate and enter into further coal shipment contracts; and WHEREAS, Seward Terminal, Inc. has advised the City that it must operate its existing equipment at the coal terminal in Seward at least once each month to maintain the equipment and prevent equipment damage; and WHEREAS, the current electrical rate for an Industrial class of service under the City's Electric Tariff requires a demand billing of not less than 750 kW; and WHEREAS, except during a short period each month, the actual demand will be much lower than 750 kW; and WHEREAS, the Utilities Manager was authorized to negotiate a special contract, which was approved by the City Council in December 2002, which allows Seward Terminal, Inc. to run their motors once a month without incurring the demand charge; and WHEREAS, the Utilities Manager has recommended that the City Council recognize the unique power requirements of Seward Terminal, Inc. in maintaining its equipment while Seward Terminal, Inc. seeks future shipping contracts, and extend the special contract for a term not to exceed August 31, 2003, or when Seward Terminal Inc. resumes normal operations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to extend the Special Contract for Electric Rates with Seward Terminal, Inc., for a term ending no later than August 31, 2003, or when Seward Terminal, Inc. resumes normal operations, in accordance with the Special Contracts authorization in the City of Seward Electrical Tariff. CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2003-35 Section 2. This resolution shall take effect on May 1, 2003.
