HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1971-830 ~'~--~- CI~Y OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 830 A RESOLU~ION PROVIDING FOR THE SUBMISSION TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF THE CI~Y OF SEWARD, ALASKA, THE QUES~IO~ OF CON~INUA~ION OF THE FLUORIDA~II)~ OF THE MUNICIPAL WATER SUPPLY, SUCH QUESTION TO BE SUBMI~TED TO THE ELECTORS IN AN ADVISORY REFERENDUM TO BE HELD FOR THAT PURPOSE ON OCTOBER 5, 1971 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD: Section 1. An advisory referendum is to be held on Tuesday, October 5, 1971, in the City of Seward, in con- junction with the general and special election to be held on that date, for the purpose of submitting the following pro- posal to the qualified electors of the City of Seward for an opinion advisory to the City Council. A majority of electors qualified and voting in favor of the proposition is required for approval. . PROPOSITION NO. 3 Shall the City of Seward, Alaska, continue the fluoridation of its municipal water supply? Section 2. The foregoing proposition shall be printed on a single ballot which shall consist of the state- ment in full as set forth above, with the following added to the proposition: PROPOSITION NO. 3 Yes ( ) No ( ) Section 3. The qualifications for electors at this special election are as follows: a. They must be at least nineteen (19) year of age. b. They must be citizens of the United States, for at least one year just preceding the election a resident of the State of Alaska, and for at least thirty (30) days just preceding the election a resident of the election district in which the city is located. t --- - ----~ ATTACHED TO AND MADE A PART OF THE MINUTES OF THE c. They must be able to speak or read the English language as prescribed by law, unless prevented by physical disability. d. They must be registered in the manner prescribed in the Seward Election Code. e. They must not be barred from voting by any other provision of law. Section 4. Registration shall be required as a qualification of the voters in the special election as provided in Chapter 8 of the Seward City Code. Polling places shall be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on October 5, 1971. The manner, method and procedure for conducting the election, including the canvass of returns, shall be as provided for City elections in Chapter 8 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Seward, Alaska. Section 5. The City Manager shall cause to be pub- lished in a newspaper of general circulation in the City such notices of this election as are required by Section 8-4 of the Seward City Code. . Publication of this Resolution shall be made by posting a copy hereof on the City Hall bulletin board for a period of ten (10) days fOllowing its passage and approval. This Resolution takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the City Council of the City of Seward.
