THE CITY OF SEWARD
RESOLUTION NO. 898
WHEREAS) the University of Alaska) Institute of Marine
Science, operates the Seward Marine Station, and
WHEREAS, additional facilities at Seward will expand
and enhance oceanographic activities which can be
located here, and
WHEREAS) the proposal which offers the best utilization
of the Seward location to advQnce this work is the one
presently under consideration) and
WHEREAS, the proposal ~ncludeG i~provement of dock
facilities to permit tcndlir.g of more end larger
vessels to the benefit of the S~ate of Alaslca, the
Institute and the City) construction of a research
aquarium which would also be cpen to the public while
permitting studer.t educstion at nearly all grade le-
vels, and construction of staff/student living accomo-
dations which when considered with the total plan will
permit a high level of utilization of all complex fa-
cili ties.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of
the City of Seward, Alaska, that the plans for expansion
of the Seward Marine Station are hereby unanimously en-
dorsed.
PASSED AND APPROVED ty the Com.T!lon Council of the City of
Seward, Alaska, this 25th day of February, 1974.
