HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1977-002 r'C--~---- 12/30/76 JES/jes CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 77-2 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING PACIFIC ALASKA LINES TO ESTABLISH A SEWARD FREIGHT TARIFF WHEREAS the City of Seward is interested in furthering a positive business atmosphere with Portland business enterprises and, specifically, Pacific Alaska Lines, Portland, Oregon, and WHEREAS Pacific Alaska Lines is the only transportation firm which currently ships freight directly into Seward, and WHEREAS it is presently a legal requirement that all freight arriving in Seward be carried by road or rail to Kenai or Anchorage for unloading, due to the tariff rate schedule, and WHEREAS a large percentage of the freight coming over the dock in Seward is ordered by individuals in the Seward area, and WHEREAS with the notification by the oil companies that Seward will be used an an on-shore base for oil exploration in the Gulf of Alaska, the freight coming into the Seward area with greatly increase; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, requests Pacific Alaska Lines of Portland, Oregon, to establish a freight tariff for shipments from Portland to Seward.
