HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1977-010 r~--~- 3/4/77 JES/jes CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 77-10 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING ALASKA STATE SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 15 RELATING TO THE PROPOSED TRANS-ALASKA GAS PIPELINE WHEREAS, the United States is experiencing a serious energy crisis, and WHEREAS, the continued growth and development of Alaska depends on greater utilization of the State's resources, and WHEREAS, many Alaskans face seasonal unemployment which would be reduced by increasing economic activity within the State, and WHEREAS, alternative trans-Alaskan or trans-Canadian pipeline proposals have been made for the transportation of the natural gas from the North Slope, and WHEREAS, the proposal to utilize a route across Canada would subject the project to partial control by a foreign government, however friendly, and WHEREAS, an all-Alaska pipeline route would create widespread economic advantages for the State of Alaska as well as the entire United States; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, heartily supports State of Alaska Senate Joint Resolution No. 15, recommending an all-Alaska, all-American gas pipeline. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Seward City Council urges the President of the United States to recommend approval of the trans-Alaska gas pipeline and urges the Congress to approve such a recommendation from the President. COPIES of this resolution shall be sent to the Honorable Jimmy Carter, President of the United States, the Honorable Walter F. Mondale, President of the U.S. Senate, the Honorable Thomas F. O'Neill, Jr., Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives; to the Honorable Ted Stevens and the Honorable Mike Gravel, U.S. Senators, and the Honorable Don Young. U.S. Representative, memb~rs of the Alaska delegation in Congress; to the Honorable Jay S. Hammond, Governor of the State of Alaska; the Honorable Kay Poland, Chairman of the State of Alaska Senate Resources Committee; and to Don M. Berry, Executive Director of the Alaska Municipal League.
