CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 81-53
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE STATE OF
ALASKA, DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND GAME, TO DEVELOP A KING
SALMON SPORT FISHERY WITHIN RESURRECTION BAY
WHEREAS, Resurrection Bay supports the largest coho salmon sport
fishery in Alaska; and
WHEREAS, the Resurrection Bay coho run contributes significantly
to the Seward area economy; and
WHEREAS, the coho run is a late summer sport fishery; and
WHEREAS, the recreation potential of Resurrection Bay could be
greatly expanded if an early run salmon fishery were established; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Fish and Game, Division of Fisheries
Rehabilitation Enhancement and Development (FRED Program), recognizes the
potential to develop an early summer chinook salmon run within Resurrection
Bay;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The State of Alaska, Department of Fish and Game,
FRED Division, is requested to commence development of a chinook salmon
fishery for Resurrection Bay.
Section 2. The Twelfth Alaska Legislature is respectfully re-
quested to authorize and appropriate the funds necessary to permit the
development of chinook salmon sport fishery within Resurrection Bay.
Section 3. The City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska lends
its public support to establish a chinook salmon sport fishery within
Resurrection Bay.
Section 4. This resolution shall be served upon the Honorable
Jay S. Hammond, Governor of the State of Alaska; the Honorable Jalmar
Kerttula, President of the State Senate; the Honorable Joe L. Hayes,
Speaker of the House; the Honorable Bette M. Cato, State Representative;
and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
Section 5. This resolution takes effect immediately upon its
adoption.
