CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 81- 56
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE STATE LEGISLATURE
PLAN A THREE-DAY WEEKEND MARCH 13-15, 1982
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska will host the Arctic Winter Games, and
WHEREAS, the Fairbanks North Star Borough, City of North Pole, and
City of Fairbanks will be the site of the Arctic Winter Games, March 14-19,
1982, and
WHEREAS, the Arctic Winter Games were conceived by Canadian and
Alaskan Officials in 1970 and are hosted by communities in Northwest Territories,
Yukon Territory, Canada and the State of Alaska every two years, and
WHEREAS, the Arctic Winter Games are athletic, cultural and social
events for people of all ages residing in areas north of the 600 latitude, and
WHEREAS, the Games are international events designed to promote
goodwill and friendship among northern neighbors, and
WHEREAS, the future will demand a closer relationship between Canada
and Alaska, the Games will present an opportunity for Alaskan Legislators to
meet Canadian Officials on an informal basis;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, that the Alaska State Legislature be requested to take a long
weekend March 13-15, 1982, so that legislators may attend the opening of the
1982 Arctic Winter Games.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, this 14 day of December 1982.
