CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 2003-82
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO MAKE STARTER
REPAIRS TO GENERATORS #1 AND #2 INCLUDING THE
CONSTRUCTION OF A SMALL BUILDING AND PURCHASE OF
EQUIPMENT NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THE REPAIRS FOR AN
AMOUNT NOT-TO-EXCEED $30,600
WHEREAS, the City of Seward has 6 Generators with approximately 12 MW of
capacity to provide stand-by power for the City in the event of failure of the Transmission Line;
and
WHEREAS, two ofthese generators have experienced started failures and replacement
parts are not available; and
WHEREAS, the two Alco generators can be started with a compressed air starter; and
WHEREAS, the purchase of two compressed air starters, a compressor, a building to
house the compressor and the batteries for the two units, and associated material and equipment
to make the conversion will cost approximately $30,600.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to make starter repairs to Generators # 1
and #2 totaling approximately $30,600.
Section 2. Funding is available from the Electric Department Generation
Maintenance & Repair, Account 501-5100-5380.
Section 3.
This resolution to take effect immediately.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 28th
day of July, 2003.
