CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
ORDINANCE NO. 97-04
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AMENDING THE ZONING OF LOT 25, MARATHON ADDI-
TION, FROM SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENTIAL TO URBAN RESIDENTIAL
WHEREAS, Alfred Morgan has submitted an application and the required $250 filing fee
requesting that Lot 25, Marathon Addition, be rezoned from Single Family Residential (Rl) to Urban
Residential (UR) in conformance with the Land Use Plan; and
WHEREAS, the UR district was established in response to a recommendation included in
the 1990 Comprehensive Plan Update to allow a higher density of mixed residential uses from
detached single family housing to multi-family apartments in conjunction with compatible low
impact professional office uses in the area surrounding the downtown business district; and
WHEREAS, there currently exists on the subject property a single family home with an
attached apartment; and
WHEREAS, a goal of the Seward Comprehensive Plan is to "maintain Seward's Land Use
Plan as the primary local tool to ensure quality community land use arrangements, growth and
development to the year 2010;" and
WHEREAS, at its December 10, 1996 adjourned meeting, the Planning and Zoning
Commission held a public hearing on the request and failed to recommend approval of the rezone
at its January 10, 1997, adjourned meeting;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
HEREBY ORDAINS that:
Section 1. The Official Seward Zoning Map is hereby amended by changing the zoning
designation of Lot 25, Marathon Addition, from Single Family Residential to Urban Residential in
conformance with the Land Use Plan.
Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect ten (10) days following its enactment.
ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, this
10th day of February, 1997.
