CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 99-015
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE CAINES HEAD STATE RECREATION
AREA REQUEST FOR A STATE OF ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF
NATURAL RESOURCES GRANT FOR THE REPAIR TO THE TRAIL AND
BRIDGE TO THE CAINES HEAD STATE RECREATION AREA
WHEREAS, Caines Head State Recreation Area(SRA), with its Public Use Cabins, trails,
campsites and historic features is a popular recreational destination for Alaskans and their visitors;
and
WHEREAS, Caines Head SRA is an important component to the recreational opportunities
that exist in the Seward area; and
WHEREAS, flooding in the Seward area in 1998 caused the newly constructed Tonsina
Creek Bridge to have a 40-foot section washed downstream; and
WHEREAS, in order to make it safer for visitors hiking to the recreation area the tidal trail
linking the recreation area and road system needs to be modified; and
WHEREAS, the Recreational Trails Grant Program has grant money available for such
repairs and improvements;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward hereby supports the Caines Head State Recreation Area
request for a State of Alaska Department of Natural Resources grant for the repair to the trail and
bridge to the Caines Head State Recreation Area.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 22 day
of February, 1999.
