RESOLUTION 99-016
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE NORDIC SKI CLUB'S REQUEST FOR A
STATE OF ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES GRANT
FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THE MILE 12 SKI AREA
WHEREAS, on June 10, 1996, the City Council approved Resolution 96-072 urging the
State of Alaska to approve the development of a non-motorized sport trail system; and
WHEREAS, on November 23, 1998, the City Council approved Resolution 98-134
endorsing the inclusion of improvements to the Mile 12 Ski Area into the fiscal year 2000-2002
Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan; and
WHEREAS, the project will increase recreation access to the area for hikers and mountain
bikers in South-central Alaska; and
WHEREAS, the increased winter recreation opportunities will have a positive impact on
both the mental and physical health of local residents; and
WHEREAS, the Nordic Ski Club is requesting a State of Alaska Department of Natural
Resources Grant for improvements to the Mile 12 Ski Area;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council supports the Nordic Ski Club's request for a State of Alaska
Department of Natural Resources Grant for improvements to the Mile 12 Ski Area.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 22 day
of February, 1999.
