RESOLUTION NO. 99-037
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF THE CHUGACH REGIONAL
RESOURCES COMMISSION AND QUTEKCAKNATlVE TRIBE TO HOST
A ONE-DAY EVENT MARKING THE 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE
EXXON VALDEZ OIL SPILL, CALLED "A NATIVE PERSPECTIVE: TEN
YEARS AFTER THE EXXON VALDEZ OIL SPILL," AND
APPROPRIATING $1,000 FROM THE GENERAL FUND FUND BALANCE,
ACCOUNT 101-0000-3050 TO CONTRIBUTIONS DEPARTMENT 101-1190-
5160-XXXX
WHEREAS, March 24, 1999 will mark 10 years since the Exxon Valdez oil spill occurred
in Prince William Sound, and this event will be marked in many ways; and
WHEREAS, the Chugach Regional Resources Commission and Native communities in the
spill-effected areas seek to honor the resiliency, strength, and cooperative spirit ofthe Alaska Native
Tribes who have endured the aftermath of this catastrophic oil spill; and
WHEREAS, the Chugach Regional Resources Commission arid the Qutekcak Native Tribe
are requesting the City's support to sponsor "A Native Perspective: Ten Years After the Exxon
Valdez Oil Spill; and '
WHEREAS, this one-day event will focus on the human impacts of the spill; and
WHEREAS, the Chugach Regional Resources Commission and Qutekcak have requested
the City to provide $1,000 toward the costs associated with putting together this historic event;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward supports the efforts of the Chugach Regional Resources
Commission and the Qutekcak Native Tribe to sponsor "A Native Perspective: Ten Years After the
Exxon Valdez Oil Spill.
Section 2. $1,000 is appropriated from the General Fund fund balance, account 101-0000-
3050 to Contributions Department 101-tt99-5'HiQ-XXXX.

Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 22nd
day of March, 1999.
