RESOLUTION NO. 99-040
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, IN SUPPORT OF THE PHOENIX RESURRECTION FOUNDA-
TION'S EFFORT TO RECONSTRUCT A SAILING REPLICA OF THE
HISTORIC RUSSIAN-ALASKAN FRIGATE THE PHOENIX
WHEREAS, in August of 1794 the American Russian Phoenix was launched into the waters
of Resurrection Bay; and
WHEREAS, the nonprofit organization, the Phoenix Resurrection Foundation, is seeking
support for the construction and launching of a replica of the historically significant vessel; and
WHEREAS, this effort would fulfill the foundation's two-fold mission to preserve maritime
history and the historical ties between Russian and Alaskan cultures; and to insure the tradition of
classical ship building knowledge and sailing techniques will be passed on to future generations;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward, Alaska supports the Phoenix Resurrection Foundation's effort
to reconstruct the Phoenix.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 12 day
of April, 1999
