RESOLUTION NO. 99-053
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DONATE FOR A
PERIOD OF APPROXIMATELY FOUR YEARS THE DESIGNATED SITE
ADJACENT TO THE SMALL BOAT HARBOR BREAKWATER FOR USE
BY THE PHOENIX RESURRECTION FOUNDATION TO CONSTRUCT A
FULL-SIZE REPLICA OF THE PHOENIX
WHEREAS, the Seward City Council approved a Resolution 99-040 on April 12, 1999 in
support of the Phoenix Resurrection Foundation's efforts to reconstruct the S/S Phoenix
WHEREAS, the Phoenix Resurrection Foundation, a local non-profit organization, is ready
to begin construction of a full -size replica of the historical Russian S/S Phoenix; and
WHEREAS, the organization has requested the use of City owned land adjacent to
Resurrection Bay as a site for construction of the S/S Phoenix; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward's Engineering and Utilities department surveyed possible
sites long the waterfront and have suggested a tentative location; and
WHEREAS, this will be a valuable tourist attraction;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council authorizes the City Manager to negotiate a lease for a period
not to exceed five years at a designated site adjacent to the Small Boat Harbor breakwater for use
by the Phoenix Resurrection Foundation to construct a full-size replica of the S/S Phoenix.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council ofthe City of Seward, Alaska, this 10 day
of May, 1999.
