CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 99-055
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, PLACING SEVEN BUILDINGS/SITES ON THE SEWARD
REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 95-10, established the Seward Register of Historic Places to
provide public recognition oflocal cultural resources significant in Seward's history and worthy of
preservation; and
WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission has prepared Seward Register of
Historic Places applications for seven local buildings and sites as part ofthe an historic preservation
grant received from the State of Alaska Historic Preservation Office; and
WHEREAS, local register applications have been prepared for the following local historic
buildings and sites:
*The Harriman Bank / Ray Building
*The Cameron House
*The Historic Methodist / Lutheran Church (Resurrect Art Coffee House)
*Two Lakes Park
*The Johnston Building
*The Holland House
*The Stewart House
WHEREAS, local recognition ofthese sites will assist in raising the public's awareness of
Seward's history, and assist in protecting the historical integrity of the properties; and
WHEREAS, at its April 21 , 1999 meeting the Historic Preservation Commission determined
that the buildings and sites were eligible for placement on the Seward Register of Historic Places and
recommended that the City Council list the property on the local register.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The following local historic buildings and sites are hereby placed on the Seward
Register of Historic Places:
The Harriman Bank / Ray Building
The Cameron House

The Johnston Building
The Holland House
The Stewart House
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 10th day of
May, 1999.
