RESOLUTION NO. 99-123
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, EFFECTIVE JANUARY
1,2000, TO RECLASSIFY THE PLANNING ASSISTANT POSITION FROM
A RANGE 15 TO A RANGE 17 AND CHANGE THE TITLE TO PLANNING
AND ZONING TECHNICIAN; ELIMINATE THE COMMUNITY DEVELOP-
MENT DIRECTOR POSITION AND CREATE THE PLANNING AND
ZONING CLERK POSITION AT A RANGE 9; AND RECLASSIFY THE
ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER POSITION FROM A RANGE 23-26, TO A
RANGE 24-27, FORA TOTAL SAVINGS OF $33,561
WHEREAS, the upcoming retirement of the Community Development Director has
presented an opportunity to restructure the department and lower personnel costs; and
WHEREAS, the administration will take on the duties of the department through the
Assistant City Manager and Planning & Zoning Technician reclassifications and by establishing a
Planning & Zoning Clerk position; and
WHEREAS, reclassifying the Assistant City Manager and Planning Assistant, adding a
Planning & Zoning Clerk and eliminating the Community Development Director Position will bring
a savings of$33,561;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. Effective January 1, 2000, the City Manager is authorized to eliminate the
Community Development Director position; reclassify the Assistant City Manager position from a
Range 23-26 to a Range 24-27; reclassify the Planning Assistant position to a Planning & Zoning
Technician with a change from a Range 15 to a Range 17 and create a Planning & Zoning Clerk
position at Range 9.
Section 2. The reclassifications described herein are subject to latter adoption of ordinance
amendments, as may be necessary, to restructure the community development department under the
city code.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council ofthe City of Seward, Alaska, this 13 day
of September, 1999.
