RESOLUTION 2001-118
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT TO THE
STATE OF ALASKA, DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, AN
APPLICATION FOR A HISTORIC PRESERVATION FUND GRANT TO
PLAN AND PRODUCE A SEWARD CENTENNIAL SYMPOSWM
WHEREAS, pursuant to the National Park Service Historic Preservation Act of 1966, certain
federal share matching grants for historic preservation projects are available to certified local
governments; and
WHEREAS,in 2003 Seward will celebrate its centennial which presents an opportunity for
community celebrations and educational activities focused on the history of Seward; and
WHEREAS, the Seward Historic Preservation Commission has prepared an historic
preservation grant application to plan and produce a symposium that will provide the foundation
event for the Seward Centennial, 2003; and
WHEREAS,an identified goal of the City of Seward Strategic Plan is to plan and celebrate
the Seward Centennial in 2003; and
WHEREAS,the total project cost is anticipated at $33,000 with a federal share of$19,800,
and a local match of$13,200. The City's match for this project will be provided by cash, in-kind, and
donated goods and services; and
WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission approved Resolution 2001-06
recommending City Council authorization to submit the attached application for a historic
preservation fund grant to plan and produce a Seward Centennial Symposium; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the application prepared by the Historic
Preservation Commission and is aware of the obligations and responsibilities that will be incurred by
the City of Seward upon acceptance of the requested grant
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to submit an application to
the State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources, for a federal share matching grant project to
plan and produce a Seward Centennial Symposium.

Section 2. The Community Development Division is established as the agent for the City of
Seward for the administration ofthis project.
Section 3. If the City of Seward is awarded the grant for the Seward Centennial Symposium
project, the City Council intends to introduce a resolution providing matching funds for this project.
Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 24th
day of September, 2001.
