HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes2001-119 I I I Sponsored by: Janke CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2001-119 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, ENDORSING PROJECTS FOR SUBMISSION TO THE STATE FOR INCLUSION IN THE 2004-2006 STATEWIDE TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PLAN WHEREAS, the City has the opportunity to submit new or modified projects to the 2004- 2006 Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP); and WHEREAS,the City has a number of projects which are in the "Needs List," or in the STIP which contains those projects that scored high enough in past evaluations to make the actual state plan; and WHEREAS,the City has identified one new project, 4th Avenue Rehabilitation Project, for the submission to the State for inclusion in the 2004-2006 STIP; and WHEREAS,a number of years ago the City nominated the Lowell Point Road Reconstruc- tion project to the STIP, however it has remained on the "Needs List"; and WHEREAS, the Kenai Peninsula Borough may take the lead on the Lowell Point Road project by submitting a new nomination to the State, and it is important that the City identify its continued support for this project; and WHEREAS, the Seward 20 I 0 Comprehensive Plan's states that Lowell Point Road is in need of upgrading and recommends continuing to seek Borough and State of Alaska funding to enhance the safety and usability of the road, and the City's 1999 Strategic Plan also specifically recommends using the STIP to upgrade Lowell Point Road; and WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Plan identifies that curbs, gutters and sidewalks are needed throughout the community, and specifically recommends that sidewalks be upgraded and increased to ease pedestrian traffic between the Downtown and Small Boat Harbor areas; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The City Council endorses the Fourth Avenue Rehabilitation Project for inclusion in the 2004-2006 Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan. CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2001-119 Section 2. The City Council supports the Kenai Peninsula Borough's nomination of the Lowell Point Road project in the 2004-2006 Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 24th day of September, 2001.
