CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 79-50
A RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR THE TERMINATION
OF COVERAGE OF CITY EMPLOYEES UNDER
THE SOCIAL SECURITY PROGRAM
WHEREAS, a majority of the employees of the City of Seward, Alaska,
favor the termination of coverage under the Federal Social Security System; and
WHEREAS, Social Security statistics indicate that major social and
economic changes will substantially increase the cost of Social Security
coverage to employees in future years; and
WHEREAS, current rates of inflation are likely to reduce the economic
benefit of participation in Social Security to most of the current employees
of the City of Seward;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward hereby terminated mandatory coverage
of its employees under the Social Security System so that employees may cease
to be active contributing members to the Social Security System as soon as
Federal regulations allow such termination from participation.
Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to
take all action necessary to withdraw the City of Seward from the Social
Security Contribution System so that amounts will no longer have to be with-
held from the gross earnings of employees for Social Security contributions.
