CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 94-073
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, URGING THE KENAI PENINSULA
BOROUGH TO PROVIDE A SITE IN THE OLD SEWARD
LANDFILL FOR A PUBLIC SHOOTING RANGE
WHEREAS, several Seward area residents have petitioned the city of Seward to
establish a shooting range in a location that is both convenient and safe for target practice
by adults and supervised youth; and
WHEREAS, the site of the former Seward Landfill is both convenient to area
residents and sufficiently isolated from residential and commercial developments to
appear to be an ideal location for such a shooting range; and
WHEREAS, the former landfill is owned by the Kenai Peninsula Borough; and
WHEREAS, this site is zoned Resource Management, and, under proposed Zoning
Code changes, shooting ranges will be allowed in the Resource Management Zone by
conditional use permit;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Kenai Peninsula Borough is hereby urged to designate a site at the
former Seward Landfill for a local shooting range to be constructed and managed by a
local nonprofit organization in accordance with safety standards established by
appropriate state and/or federal agencies.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this
13th day of June, 1994.
