HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1994-097 Sponsored by: ~ CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 94-097 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS FOR U. S. FOREST SERVICE MINI GRANTS (RURAL COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM) WHEREAS, mini-grants for various community projects are currently available from the U. S. Forest Service Rural Community Assistance Program (RCAP) through a program administered by the Alaska Department of Community and Regional Affairs; and WHEREAS, the city of Seward (City) wishes to apply for three separate mini-grants totalling $30,000; and WHEREAS, Project No.1 would provide funds in the amount of $12,500 to design an economic development plan for the Small Boat Harbor area to encourage and support small business growth and thereby increase the number of jobs in the community; and WHEREAS, Project No.2 would provide USFS-RCAP funds in the amount of $10,000 to fund a portion of an $80,175 study to evaluate the benefits and costs resulting from visitor activity in the community; and WHEREAS, Project No.3 would provide USFS-RCAP funds in the amount of $7,500 to fund a $9,500 for the purchase and placement of visitor business signage; and WHEREAS, upon final announcement of any grants awarded under this program, the administration will bring forward for Council approval resolutions accepting the grants and appropriating any city matching funds; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The City Council supports the following three projects and urges the U. S. Forest Service, through its Rural Community Assistance Program in partnership with the Alaska Department of Community and Regional Affairs, to provide the requested grant funds: 1. Design of an economic development plan for the Small Boat Harbor Area ($12,500 in RCAP Grant Funds) 2. Tourism Assessment Project to evaluate the benefits and costs resulting from the visitor industry ($10,000 in RCAP Grant Funds) . . . CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION NO. 94-097 3. Purchase and placement of visitor-related signage ($7,500 in RCAP Grant Funds and $2,000 in in-kind City personnel services) Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to submit applications for the mini- grant projects identified above. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
